1. Get outside
There’s nothing like getting outside in nature to improve mental, emotional and physical health. Hiking or walking outside in the mountains is my meditation and never fails to lift my spirits on a down day.
2. Boost nitric oxide
Nitric oxide goes down with age and is extremely important for skin and sexual health so I make it a point to try to boost mine everyday with things like exercise, red light therapy (or sunshine!), pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy and fruits and vegetables high in healthy nitrates.

3. Frequent Sauna
I’ve become a serious infrared sauna fan in the last few months and I try to fit in a session at least four days a week after my strength-training. Saunas are great for cardiovascular health, as well as skin health, and I absolutely love how I feel after a serious 45-min sweat-a-thon.
4. Connection Time
Part of my interest in sex (and sexual health) is that it promotes real human connection, which is becoming more and more rare these days. So, I think an active sex life is important, but I’m also all about connecting in other ways with friends and family. As my kids get older I’m finding it even more necessary to create time in my schedule to be present with them.
5. Sleep 7-8 hours
My life (literally!) changed eight years ago when I left the ER and learned to sleep. Now, I make sleep a priority above almost everything else. I love magnesium before bed as well as a sleep mask and a cool, dark room. Hmmm… it’s making me want to go to bed right now!
These are a few of my daily health hacks. For more “hot tips” (and some pretty absurd reels!) follow me on instagram @dr.amybkillen. I’m also coming out with a quest for Mindvalley.com soon called “The Science of Great Sex” so keep an eye out for that. Finally, I’m very excited to be a founder of Reputable (Reputable.health), a Web3-based platform that aggregates real world evidence on health and wellness innovations, turning N of 1 experiments into actionable data to support us as we seek to move from sick to healthy and from healthy to enhanced.

This Fall Boost Your Immunity with Plant Diversity Part Two
Fiber and Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs)
When our gut bacteria ferment fiber, metabolites called short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) are formed. SCFA are a major energy source for the cells lining our colon. They support immune system function, help nourish intestinal tissues, and stimulate the growth of some types of good bacteria in your gut.
